Todd,
I want to take a moment and compliment your treatment of The Beatles/George Harrison song “Within You Without You” that has been the soundtrack to these last few podcasts. You would have no reason to know this but I am a huge Beatles fan. One of my favorite pieces of artwork in my home is a framed and matted Beatles poster that shows all of their original LP covers and a list of all their song titles. Their career was amazingly prolific and all too brief. George is a sort of unsung hero of mine. I think he gets to little credit for pushing the musical envelope as song writer. He was unfairly too hidden in the Lennon/McCartney shadow in my opinion.
I was a little afraid for you when I realized you had covered this song and listened with trepidation. The respect and careful attention you paid to the original piece is quite evident and appropriate. I once read an interview with Peter Frampton. The interview was done in the 80’s well after Pete had fallen from his 70’s pinnacle of popularity. The interviewer asked him about that transition from huge to obscure. Frampton half-joked with his answer by speculating that he had fallen from grace for committing the ultimate musical sin, he had covered a Beatles tune. If you remember he was in the absolutely awful , Bee Gee/Frampton film “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”. That film was in 1978 and Frampton’s career tanked soon after, too bad really because he is a better guitarist than people realized. I think he fell victim to his own musicianship obscuring “Tiger Beat” image. I think you are safe from Frampton’s ill-fate. I bet George would have appreciated and been honored by your efforts. As a rule I haven't liked many Beatle cover tunes but I definitely like this one.

Darren

The only work I own of Nietzsche is the Antichrist, and I thank you for your podcast, helping me put it all in perspective. And, I didn't know it at the time, but Nihilism was a door I passed through a few years ago, and now I am able to unravel the values of true reality.
peace

Todd,
I am here for the first time. I too lived in Boulder in your early years. I have a Phd in the Philosophy of Religion.
A life always on the move, can be needs not met. The highest values are lost for many, we need to rethink what is important;embrace life, love and our planet. For the all of the above help us grow.

Thanks for the interesting podcast. It gave me a more positive outlook on nihilism. Now I want to re-read the author's points on that subject. I like the thought of it being a transition rather than an end in itself.
I also like the related thought on truth as a living being, an evolution of values, as a opposed to a constant, static absolute. Your analogies are priceless -- a stale destination or fixed star vs. vagrancy and homelessness. The descriptions are vivid and memorable, and make a lot of sense.
The inherent contradiction in believing a creation story without question, yet holding the search for truth as a value, is another light-bulb moment.
Thanks, Mike Power
